Itheon Performance Monitor (iPM) Getting Started

System Requirements

Before installing Itheon Performance Monitor, make sure your environment meets the following requirements.

Server (the iPM monitoring server itself)

  • Operating system: a supported 64-bit Linux distribution (Rocky Linux, RHEL, or CentOS 8+ recommended)
  • CPU, RAM, and disk scale with how many hosts and services you plan to monitor. As a starting point:
    • Small (up to ~100 hosts): 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB disk
    • Medium (up to ~500 hosts): 8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 250 GB disk
    • Large (500+ hosts, multi-site): 16 vCPU, 32 GB RAM or more, 500 GB+ disk, ideally on fast (SSD) storage since historical performance data accumulates quickly
  • A static IP address for the server, and a properly configured system clock (NTP), since inaccurate time skews graphs, reports, and SLA calculations

Network access

  • ICMP (ping) to every host you plan to monitor
  • SNMP (UDP 161) to any device monitored via SNMP, and SNMP trap receipt (UDP 162) if you use trap-based alerting
  • SSH (TCP 22) to Linux/Unix hosts monitored via SSH-based checks
  • Outbound SMTP access if you want iPM to send email notifications
  • Outbound HTTPS access if you use the mobile app or any cloud-based notification integrations

Client / browser

  • A current version of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge to access the web console
  • No browser plugins are required, since the console runs entirely in standard HTML/JS

Devices being monitored

  • SNMP must be enabled on network devices (switches, routers, firewalls) you intend to monitor, with a community string or SNMPv3 credentials you can provide during setup
  • Windows hosts monitored beyond basic ping/port checks will need an SNMP service or monitoring agent enabled
  • Linux/Unix hosts monitored via SSH need an account iPM can authenticate with (key-based authentication is recommended)

If you are planning a deployment larger than the sizes above, or monitoring across multiple geographically separate sites, contact your itheon representative for a sizing recommendation before you install.
