Itheon Performance Monitor (iPM) Getting Started

Introduction to iPM

Itheon Performance Monitor (iPM) is itheon's infrastructure performance monitoring platform. It gives IT teams a single, real-time view of the health, availability, and performance of servers, network devices, applications, and services across the enterprise.

At its core, iPM continuously polls the devices and services you add to it — using protocols like SNMP, ICMP (ping), and SSH — and compares what it finds against defined thresholds. When something moves outside a healthy range, iPM raises an alert, records the event in its history, and (depending on how notifications are configured) lets your team know immediately by email or through the mobile app.

Everything in iPM is organized around two core concepts:

  • Hosts — the physical or virtual devices you monitor: servers, routers, switches, firewalls, storage arrays, and so on.
  • Services — the individual checks running against a host, such as CPU load, disk space, a specific TCP port, or an application process.

A host can have any number of services attached to it, and each service is checked on its own schedule. This is what lets iPM scale from watching a handful of servers to monitoring an entire multi-site enterprise network from one console.

iPM also ships with:

  • A web-based dashboard for real-time status and drill-down views
  • Network topology discovery and mapping
  • Netflow-based traffic analysis
  • SLA and availability reporting
  • A mobile companion app for on-the-go visibility
  • An alerting and escalation engine for incident response

This Getting Started section walks through installing iPM, configuring it for your environment, and monitoring your first device. If you are brand new to iPM, read the articles in this section in order, since each one builds on the last.
