A dashboard in iPM is made up of widgets, small self-contained panels you can add, remove, resize, and rearrange. Understanding what each widget shows makes it much easier to build a dashboard that's actually useful for your team.
Common widget types
- Host Status — a count or list of hosts by status (Up, Down, Pending), optionally scoped to a host group
- Service Status — the same idea for services, broken down by OK, Warning, Critical, and Unknown
- Alert / Event Feed — a live, scrolling list of recent alerts and status changes
- Performance Graph — a graph of a specific metric (CPU, memory, disk, network throughput) for one host or a group of hosts
- Availability / SLA — uptime percentage against a target, over a chosen time period
- Network Topology / Map — a visual map of discovered devices and how they connect
- Netflow — top talkers and bandwidth consumers over a recent time window
Working with widgets
- To add a widget, use the "Add Widget" control on a dashboard and choose a type from the list above.
- Drag a widget's header to reposition it, and drag its corner to resize it.
- Each widget has its own settings (usually a small gear icon) where you set what it displays: which host group, which metric, which time range.
- Remove a widget you no longer need from the same settings menu, without affecting the rest of the dashboard.
Widgets are what make Custom Dashboards possible: once you know the building blocks, putting together a dashboard for a specific purpose (a NOC wall display, a per-site view, an executive SLA summary) is mostly a matter of choosing the right widgets and scoping each one correctly.
